The Motion Picture Industry Institute helps writers, directors, producers, performers, cinematographers, editors, and other crew members to more effectively launch and further meaningful, sustainable and fulfilling careers in the movie and television business.
MPII was founded by industry professionals who believe that a stronger, healthier industry will result if the knowledge it usually takes years to learn can be passed down to those who are just starting their careers, as well as those who are working to take their careers to the next level. Therefore, our work focuses on developing and sharing better industry standards and practices for the entire movie-making process from story development, through finance and production, to final marketing and distribution, including film theory and criticism.
MPII conducts research, workshops and trainings, and other career development programs, often hosted and/or in partnership with the industry guilds, unions, trade associations, universities and leading industry companies around the world. Some even use MPII as a better alternative to film school, with more dedicated classmates. higher level courses, and without all the student debt.
The Motion Picture Industry Institute operates as a 501.c.3 nonprofit organization, based in Los Angeles.
